42 Commandments: 2: Thou shalt not pick up more stones than you can easily carry

Since Douglas Adams we all know 42 is the meaning of life, the universe and the rest. With that in mind I think of 42 Commandments which might have been useful to a younger self of me, might still be usefull to me, you or the rest of the world. I hope you enjoy 😉

…because they are heavy. So don`t pick up more stones than easily fit in your pockets.

In childhood during a holiday in Austria I carried a Rucksack which got too heavy for me. My sister helped me to carry it. At the youth-hostel she exclaimed (in German but lets just assume for simplicity that we have a Star Trek translator): “You bought stones! You are carrying stones! No wonder that Rucksack is so heavy!” In my defence I only bought one huge marble stone egg. All the other stones were findings in nature.

Some stones are really beautiful and you can decorate with them in the garden. I picked up some flintstones from Brownsea Island to make a mosaic with them to remember the visit to this red squirrel island. I once picked up a flintstone in Andover, which was found in the nowhere, just because of its unusual size. In Lacock are beautiful stones, too.

  1. I used to do this too. Collect marble smooth stones from my childhood visits to lakes and rivers.
